FAQs
What is a co-op?
We are a group of homeschooling families who have chosen to cooperate to provide a variety of educational and enrichment classes for primary and secondary age children in a safe and loving environment. Everyone involved volunteers his/her time and talents to achieve creative excellence by serving each other through our strengths.
Where does SEEK meet?
Are parents required to attend?
Yes. Since we are a true co-op and not a drop-off educational program, a child may not participate in the co-op unless his/her parent is on site.
What is the parent's role at co-op?
Parents are required to serve 2-3 periods (hours) in one of the following areas: lead teacher, co-teacher, teacher’s assistant, nursery, roaming hall monitor, quiet study monitor, preschool assistant, private lesson monitor, or floater. The Leadership Team will assign these parent volunteer jobs.
I have small children, what will they do while I'm at my parent job during co-op?
That depends on their ages and needs. We have a nursery and preschool classes staffed throughout the day. If children are older and do not need constant supervision while out of class, we have a cafeteria/hangout room. When you fill out your parent job form each semester, you can add your preferences to request being free at certain times to be with your kids. There are certain jobs that are well-suited to having little ones along, such as nursery worker or hangout room monitor.
What is our co-op policy in the event that we have snow or other extreme weather conditions?
If our host church is open and operating, we will be holding classes.
Due to our location we have an advantage to having main roads that will get cleared quickly so we hope to not have to cancel co-op due to snow. However we understand that some of you do have more back country roads to get to us or live further away so YOU will need to make the decision for your family. If we have co-op on a bad weather day but you are unable to come please make sure to look for a replacement for your mom volunteer jobs. Then email your student's teacher to get assignments. We will instruct teachers to have grace for any students who miss on a bad weather day that we have decided to still hold co-op.
It is very hard to make up snow days especially for the high school for credit classes so we will take safety seriously but will do our best to hold whenever possible.
