Tri-County Christian Home Educators

July 29, 2011

Dear TCCHE Member:

The purpose of Tri-County Christian Home Educators support group is to offer support, encouragement and accountability to Christian families in their efforts to raise Godly children and educate these children at home.

Since our purpose is to provide support for home schooling families, we feel it is necessary to no longer accept new memberships from those participating in government funded public school at home (such as Georgia Virtual Academy or Georgia Cyber Academy). Families who were members of TCCHE and enrolled in GVA/GCA as of May 1, 2011 may continue to be members of TCCHE.

TCCHE does not want to support programs that could invite greater government control of all home study programs. Publicly funded school at home programs can undermine current home study programs by encouraging greater government control of all home study programs. One reason is that control follows money. One who gives money generally wants some say in how those funds are spent and accountability that the funds and resources are being used wisely. Using government funded programs invites greater government control in your home and family. It also paves the way for government to restrict the freedoms of non-participating families and assume more control of their home study programs.

TCCHE encourages all parents to prayerfully consider the best educational options for their children so that they may be raised to glorify Him in their lives and to train their children to do the same. We understand that the choices of public school in a building, public school at home, private school, and homeschool can be all the right choice for different families. Since TCCHE is a support group for home schooling families, TCCHE will remain committed to supporting and encouraging those who choose to use a home study program to educate their children. We will not undermine those efforts or freedoms in any way. Therefore, we cannot in good conscience recommend GVA/GCA or any other public school at home program.

Our intent is to provide the best support we can for families pursuing home study with their children. This decision has been reached after much prayer and counsel from leaders in the home school community, including multiple state home school groups and legal advisors.

Sincerely,

The Leadership Team
