FAQs

Q:

What is NCHE?

A:

NCHE stands for Nassau County Home Educators Support Group.  It is a homeschooling support group that strives to provide encouragement and community for all homeschooling families in and around Nassau County, FL. We average around 150-175 familes.

Q:

What are the benefits of joining NCHE?

A:

Our group offers many educational opportunities - such as a homeschool library, field trips, and the option to participate in our co-ops.  There are also events to foster community like park & beach days and our annual events which include a Christmas Party, Field Day, Prom, Book & Curriculum Sale, and High School and Kindergarten Graduations.

The group also offers support for parents, through “Iron Sharpens Iron” meetings for moms, and Moms (or Couples) Nights Out.

We provide annual testing and quarterly “how-to” type meetings for homeschoolers in various stages of the journey.

Q:

How do I join NCHE?

A:

The two steps to membership are completing an application on this website (click on Join) and paying the annual dues* of $25.00 via PayPal.  When your application is complete and NCHE has received your dues, you will receive notification that your application is approved.

*Please note that these dues cover a "year" of membership as defined by our website host which runs from July 1 through June 30th of the following year. Unless you join AFTER April 1, then you will need to renew your membership during our annual membership renewal period in the month of JUNE.

Q:

Does it cost to join this website?

A:

There is a $25.00 annual fee to be a member of NCHE and this fee will cover the cost for this website.  NCHE is the subscriber to the website and is responsible for payments made directly to the website hosts; individual families have no responsibility for payment directly to the website.

Q:

What is the differnce between NCHE,  BLESS and Nassau STEAMschoolers?

A:

The Nassau County Home Educators, NCHE for short, is the name of our organization. Under the umbrella of that organization are our 2 co-ops: BLESS and STEAmschoolers. You have to be a member of NCHE to participate in our co-ops but you DO NOT have to participate in the co-ops just because you are a member of NCHE.

Both co-ops meet at Springhill Baptist Church for approximately 10 weeks twice a year, with spring and fall semesters. The exact dates for each semester will be sent out via our website forum or email.

STEAMschoolers meets on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 until 12:30 with lunch and an optional extra class following. The classes are based on the principles of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. We have several classes that are repeated for multiple semesters.  However, we try to offer subjects the kids are interested in exploring as well as subjects the parents have a desire to teach with the kids. Some examples of past classes include: Lego League, Hands-On Science, 3D printing, Human Body, Animal Science, Chemistry, Calendar Math, Lego Math, Sketch, Rube Goldberg and the Science of Baking. The classes are designed for children of all ages, starting with toddlers and going through the teens.  Kids are split into age groups as much as possible, but because we are a smaller co-op, the ages will sometimes be grouped together. Parents are required to stay and participate each week. STEAMschoolers is a smaller group with limited space. You may be added to the waitlist if there is no room during the semester you sign up.

For more information on STEAMschoolers please reach out to Missy Williams (missyslittleprissys@hotmail.com), Amy Davis (amyd74625@aol.com), or Moriah Everson (moriaheverson@yahoo.com).

BLESS meets on Friday mornings from 8:30 until 12:00 with lunch and "park day" following. There are 3 classes each Friday that children 5 years of age and older participate in. (Younger children are welcome to join our preschool or toddler room but will remain there all 3 periods.) Those class options will change each semester based on what the participating parents want to teach. Some examples from past semesters include: Edible Science, Jewlery Making, Artistic Adventures, Gymnastics, Chefs in Training, Team Sports, Music and Movement, Playground Games, Simple Machines, Sewing, Creative Writing, Drawing, Engineering Challenge, Spanish, Gardening, Unplugged Gaming, Legos, and Guitar. The classes are generally broken up by age with classes for 5-8-year-olds, 9-12-year-olds, and 13+ year-olds, although there may be some classes that will include larger or different ranges. Parents are required to stay and participate and will have at least one cleaning assignment during the semester.
