Class List & Descriptions
2024-2025 Class List
WORLDVIEW:
1. Nursery
2. PreK-2nd ABCs of God
The ABCs of God is a curriculum for children on the greatness and worth of God. It uses the alphabet as a framework for learning the attributes of God and other terms that describe His character, at an age-appropriate level. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions, "Who is God?" "What is He like?" and "How should I act toward Him?" as it presents a theology of God for children. Through the use of a teaching aid called “The Blessing Box,” students will discover a new attribute of God each week and will be challenged to consider how they should respond to an amazing God who is worthy of their greatest love, honor, trust, and obedience.

Spanish 3 is for students who have a basic vocabulary in Spanish such as: days, months, family, food, clothes, animals, numbers and most common verbs. They should be comfortable conjugating verbs in present tense and familiar with "ser" and "estar" conjugations in present tense as well. This class would expand vocabulary with prepositions, places, and more specific items. We will expand verb conjugation to gerunds and continue learning about how to connect two or more sentences with conjunctions and prepositions. WRITING:
1. Nursery
2. PreK – K Learning Through Literature
A curriculum-free approach to exposing your children to wonderful picture books, allowing extension into poetry, geography, history, art, and bible. The children will develop language skills through narration, recitation, dictation, copy work and phonics. The year will consist of ten classic picture books that will be covered over a three-week span. You may choose to purchase these books, check them out from the library, or listen to them on YouTube. Each class period will begin with a reading of the book, followed by lessons/activities that enhance the story and ending with a related book. At the end of three weeks, your child will come home with a full lap-book containing their work for that story that can be shared at home with family and added to if wanted.
This gentle beginning to Learning through Literature will spark your little one’s interest in the joy of learning through wonderful picture books. They will be introduced to 10 books over the year, being allowed to re-tell or act out the story with small manipulatives. Their class time will start with the story followed by three short centers where they will work on fine motor skills via cutting, tracing or shaping play dough into letters; role play of the story; and finally an art project that will go along with their book. The end of class will allow time to hear a go-along book and singing.
3. 1st – 3rd Learning Through Literature
It’s important at this age for the children to be listening to wonderful stories and being allowed to narrate these in their own words. Our work in the classroom will include everything listed above, except for dictation. At home, you may need to incorporate a phonics program. I personally used Phonics Pathways by Dolores Hiskes. Other notable programs/books are Explode the Code and All About Reading. It’s common for children this age to not be writing all their letters/numbers correctly. This is the time to have them do only 5 minutes a day of copy work, with you guiding them in correct letter/number formation.
4. 3rd – 5th Learning Through Literature
This later elementary class incorporates everything above but expands the work intervals, vocabulary, length of stories, as well as encouraging brief written narrations of the stories heard. Recitation of a poem or bible verse will occur on the last day each book is covered. (Recitation does not mean they have to memorize it, simply recite it fluently while reading.) Parents should continue to include a phonics program of their choice at home, if necessary, as well as a 10-minute daily copy work time and a weekly dictation of a short piece from their literature. This will be explained in detail at the beginning of class.
6. 3rd – 5th IEW Intro A
Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW): Students will learn the structure and style of excellent writing. Using an incremental approach, this program teaches not just what to write, but how to write by providing the student with practical writing tools, which can be used for constructing a variety of written works. Between co-op meetings, students will have writing assignments to complete at home. Parents who are not familiar with the IEW program will need to watch the IEW training DVD’s over the summer. New families will be contacted about this after the registration deadline.
3rd – 5th Level A Introduction: Introduces the basics of the IEW writing program; children should be reading and composing sentences independently to be ready to write at this level. Class will also use IEW Fix It! Grammar Book 1--The Nose Tree.
7. 4th – 6th Just Write 3
Just Write helps students become confident and expressive writers through fun exercises, engaging text and kid-friendly examples. Detailed models are included throughout, giving kids a helpful guide for each new skill. Book 3 builds upon the earlier Just Write books, and introduces students to the four types of writing: narrative, descriptive, expository and persuasive. Students are encouraged to be creative and experiment with each genre. Enjoyable activities, exercises and checklists guide aspiring writers towards making 'reading-writing connections'.
Each student will need their own copy of Just Write Book 3
8. 4th – 6th IEW Continuation A
Take students to the next level in their Structure and Style® writing journey! Students who have completed Year 1 Level A and are ready for their second year of IEW will enjoy reviewing and refining the seven previously learned IEW units, then pressing on to Units 8 and 9, Essays and Formal Critiques. The curriculum provides clear daily assignments and includes vocabulary words, literature suggestions, and lesson plans for teachers.

They’ll practice topic sentences, a main idea (thesis statement), in-text citations, and other essential building blocks of composition. The text is incremental, the tone is light with a sprinkling of humor, and the assignments are very achievable. Assignments will be graded by the teachers for grammar and content.
