St. Louis Union Station is a National Historic Landmark and former train station. On September 1, 1894. the day of the Grand Opening, the station was the largest in the entire world that featured tracks and all the passenger service areas on one level. The traffic reached 100,000 people daily in the 1940s. The last Amtrack passenger train left the station in 1978. The headhouse originally had a hotel, a restaurant, waiting rooms and a ticketing office. It featured a gold-leafed Grand Hall, barrel-vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained glass. Union Station has encountered many changes since the major redevelopment in the 1980s.
The tour will highlight the background and history surrounding the multiple changes and additions over the years. Union Station was and still is a great place to visit to spend time with family and friends. This is a good opportunity to learn more about the history of St. Louis!
Also, at the end of the tour, we will get to view the colorful light show appearing on the 65-foot ceiling of the Grand Hall lobby which is set to popular music. The 3D light show is the first of its kind in the U.S.!
