FAQs

About CLC

Q:

What is a homeschool co-op?

A:

A true cooperative is the oldest type of homeschool group. We are a collection of families who get together to share our talents! We offer our skills and expertise to each other without fee for the betterment of the whole. All families volunteer or cooperate (hence, co-op) to make it work. Usually, a co-op consists of a leadership team, some committees, and parents as teachers and helpers for classes or nursery.

Q:

What does "inclusive" and "affirming" mean?

A:

We are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every person feels empowered. Our core values reflect our dedication to fostering a community that is affirming of LGBTQ+ identities, supportive of neurodiverse individuals, and welcoming to people from all ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.

Inclusivity: We strive to build a community where every individual is welcomed and celebrated. We honor the diversity of our students, staff, and families, and ensure that our practices and interactions reflect this commitment.

Affirmation: We are dedicated to creating a supportive atmosphere that validates and respects each person’s identity and experiences. Our school is a place where every person is seen, understood, and supported in their personal and academic growth.

Respect: We uphold the dignity and worth of every individual within our school community. We promote a culture of mutual respect, where all voices are heard, and everyone is treated with kindness and empathy.

Equity: We are committed to identifying and addressing systemic inequities that affect our students and families. We work to create equitable opportunities and ensure that students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.

Q:

What ages can attend CLC?

A:

We welcome children from 5-18! Our classes have no fixed age group because we understand that every child's needs are different.

Younger siblings are welcome as well.

Q:

Can I drop my student off?

A:

No, we are not a drop-off program. Families must commit to attending CLC regularly and participate in some way.

Membership Requirements

Q:

What are the requirements to join the co-op?

A:

To be considered a member of the CLC 757, a family must:

  • Sign up their family on our website.

    • Current Members must update their information on our website each school year to retain membership. A due date will be communicated each year.

  • Attend a short family Meet & Greet with the leadership team with children ages 5 and up (first year only).

    • After sign-up, the Leadership Team will set specific dates for these Meet & Greets. If a potential family is unable to make themselves available for at least one of these dates, it is possible that they will need to remain on the waitlist until the following semester. Exceptions for extenuating circumstances may be made, but are not guaranteed.

    • Meet & Greets are available in-person at established Park Days or via phone/Zoom

  • Pay registration fees:

    • The due date for the registration fee will be communicated each semester.

    • Fees for paid classes hosted by outside vendors are due according to the individual vendor and are NOT paid to CLC.

    • If these fees are not paid before the due date, the member risks having their membership terminated.

  • Acknowledge that they agree, understand, and will submit to all the following when registering on our website:

    • CLC757 Handbook

    • Liability and Consent Waiver

  • Be able to pass a background check (to check for violent crimes and sex offender searches).

    • This is included in your registration fee.

    • Background checks are performed every 2 years.

  • Be legally homeschooling, legally public schooling at home, OR if child(ren) is/are not compulsory school age, intending to use one of these options when child(ren) becomes compulsory age.

  • Be willing and able to participate regularly as an active member of the co-op.

Q:

How much does it cost to join?

A:

Our membership fee is based on the number of families we have enrolled each semester. The more families, the lower the cost!

Q:

What exactly am I paying for?

A:

Your membership fee pay for:

  • Facility Rent

  • Background Checks

  • Liability Insurance

  • Website Hosting

  • State Filings

  • Federal Filings

  • Scholarship Fund

  • Evaluations (PoP) for each student

Q:

I work during the day and can't teach or volunteer at all. Can my family join?

A:

Possibly. We are a community and that means that we all rely on each other in order to make CLC work. Each family must contribute something. We are also not a drop-off, so parents must be on-site and actively supervising their students.

Class Day

Q:

How long is CLC?

A:

Our co-op runs two 15-week semesters. Classes are 45 minutes long and run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Families commit to spending the entire day at the co-op, and students get to take classes of their choice.

Arrival 9:30
First Period 10:00 - 10:45
Second Period 11:00 - 11:45
Lunch 12:00-12:30
Third Period 12:30 - 1:15
Fourth Period 1:30 - 2:15
Fifth Period / Cleanup 2:30 - 3:15

Q:

What if my student doesn't want to take any of the classes offered a certain hour?

A:

If a student isn't interested in any of the classes offered at a certain time, or needs a break from classes, they are more than welcome to hang out in our FAC. We have numerous games, toys, and activities for students to entertain themselves. We do ask that parents do not leave children unattended, especially our littlest students, for the safety of everyone.

Q:

I have a baby or a toddler. Is there a place for them at CLC?

A:

We absolutely love our littlest students at CLC! Please bring them and know that you will be supported by our community.

Note: CLC families must have at least one child of school age (K-12) to participate.

Teaching

Q:

Do I have to teach to participate in co-op?

A:

No, of course not. However, priority for class registration is given to families that are teaching or otherwise serving in leadership positions.

Q:

I don't think I can teach. Will you let me join anyway?

A:

There are always a limited number of family spaces in our community for people with more "behind the scenes" type skills. We understand that not everyone is a star professor and that is okay! However, due to the small nature of our community, we do have to keep a good ratio of teachers to volunteers and there may not be an available space for your family if you are not willing/able to teach at least one class in a single semester.

Q:

I don't know what to teach.... Any ideas!?

A:

You can teach anything you wish! Go with your strengths or personal interests. If you are new, it might be helpful to stick to what you feel comfortable with. Remember: classes don't have to be core academic subjects! Some past classes: Mixed Media Art, Crochet, Intro to Law, PE, Dance, Book Club, Chess

Absences

Q:

What if I or one of my children gets sick?

A:

Please do not come to class if you're sick. You can email any of the members of the leadership team or post in our private Facebook group to let us know that you won't be coming.

Q:

What if we go on vacation during the semester (or have another planned absence)?

A:

Have fun! We would appreciate it if you could let us know in advance so that we can arrange a substitute for your classes if you are teaching.
