Mr. Steven Williams To All Instructors
Hello, I am Steve Williams, a retired math teacher of 33 years. My goal for the students at SCHA is certainly to have them learn mathematics, but more importantly to learn the soft skills necessary to be successful in today’s world. These skills aren’t found in any one particular course but in all courses. It is important that students learn to be on time, budget their time wisely, and be people who speak the truth in love. They should be people who follow through on their word, give their best effort and build positive relationships with their peers and instructors. Most importantly, they should be able to accept constructive criticism and use it to shape their character.
I believe in building a relationship with each student. One thing I like to remind my students of is, “School is not something I do to you, instead school is something I do with you”.
After graduating from Purdue in 1990, I began teaching and coaching at Avon High School. The long drive from the south side prompted me to seek another job closer to home. I began teaching at Greenwood High School in the fall of 1992 and continued there for 6 years. An opening for the computer programming job at Whiteland Community High School lured me away and I spent the next 25 years there teaching mathematics and computer related courses. I have instructed the regular and honors levels of Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus and Trigonometry.
I have been married to my wife Laura for 34 years. We have four children. Our daughter Natalie is married to Clay and they have two daughters, Ruby and Chloe. We have a son Jared, and finally we have twins, a girl and a boy. Our girl is Emily who is married to Nate, and our boy is Eric.
My faith journey began in college when I filled out a spiritual interest questionnaire in the college post office. A few days later, two men from Great Commission Ministries knocked on my dorm room door and shared the gospel with me. I immediately accepted and have been following the Lord ever since. Our family have been members of Stones Crossing Church since 1998. My wife and I run the tutoring ministry, lead mens and womens groups on Wednesday nights and have been blessed to be part of a small group for the last 6 years.
This position is an answer to prayer. As I considered retirement, it was always my desire to find a position such as this. I am excited to be part of this community
