Mrs. Jan Coventry To All Instructors

I was raised in Winter Park in a Christian home with four siblings. From a very young age, nursing was of great interest to me -- wrapping bandages on my dolls and taking care of my sisters’ “boo boos.” After graduating from nursing school and marrying, God positioned us in Southern California, where our family, as well as my nursing career, flourished; we were blessed with two sons, and I worked on the trauma team at a trauma center. As active members of the local Church of the Nazarene, I taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and ladies' Bible study classes, developing a joy for teaching.

Over a decade later, we relocated to northern California, where a position as a Medical Science teacher allowed me to develop my passion as an educator while continuing as a registered nurse in a rural hospital’s emergency department on the weekends. Teaching high school classes afforded me the opportunity to train the “healthcare workers of the future”— a program articulated with three local colleges— and was “home” for me for over a quarter of a century. It was an honor to be a part of the lives of former students who are now physicians, nurses, phlebotomists, or involved in many other healthcare career paths.

When a major life-changing event occurred in my life, I retired from both positions when God led me “back home” to Florida, where my mother and sisters and their families continue to reside. The Lord also presented a man who loves God and serves Him faithfully. We became one and share yet another new journey in life together with Jesus directing our path.

As active members of Center Pointe Community Church, the Lord provided the introduction of Watermark through a prayerful church member who I am blessed to call my friend. I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the opportunity to educate young minds in a Christian school with Bible-based curriculum and to show them the relevance of science in their lives. I am now able to appreciate that God has been preparing me for decades to use medical science knowledge in conjunction with the passion of educating that He has nurtured over many years- now in a Christian school!
