We are a co-op of homeschoolers that meet at a church located in Dundee, Illinois. We meet for 30 weeks (2 semesters of 15 weeks each) every Wednesday from September to May, with weeks off for Thanksgiving break, Winter break, and Spring break. We also have additional activities and field trips throughout the year and during the summer, Thanksgiving feast, a family dance in February, and an end-of-the-year celebration in May.

Our day runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm, with community lunch from 11:50 am to 12:30 pm. We have a variety of classes for pre-school through grade 12. Our classes are either taught by parents or outside teachers. You pick and choose what classes you want for your kids, and what time your family wishes to be at co-op. You do not have to stay all day, but you can if you want to! We do encourage families to participate in the shared lunch hour if possible.

The cost to join the co-op for the 2024-2025 year per family is a $25 registration fee (non-refundable) and $100 per semester (there are 2 semesters). This cost enables the co-op to rent the church, pay for insurance, and cover any other expenses. This amount gives your family access to all of our activities, events, free clubs, open gym times, and option to register for paid classes.

There are also costs for each class. These are listed in the class description. This money is paid directly to the teacher to compensate them for their efforts. The class fees are per child per class.

While you and your child(ren) are not in class, we have a lunch room and a game room to hang out and socialize in. We have open gym time in the gym when it is not in use by a class. There is also a small playground outside (kids must be accompanied by an adult when going outside).

This is not a drop-off co-op and parents must remain on-site while their children are at co-op. Also, parents must help out by volunteering while they are at the co-op. Volunteers are needed for morning set-up, afternoon clean-up, front desk / door monitor, hallway monitor, gym monitor, and art room helper.

How We Got Started

Annie, Sarah, and Stephanie found out in July 2023 that their co-op for the next year was closing. They decided to step in and create a new co-op in the same space with some of the same classes.

Meet the Board:

Annie Alvarez

Annie has been homeschooling for 11 years, has successfully graduated her 2 oldest children and is now homeschooling her youngest child. Over the years the family has attended the co-ops Gift, Little Red Homeschool, Champs, Trestle, and Learning Tree, and been in many homeschool groups including Schaumburg House and the Village. Annie was on the board for Schaumburg House for 5 years. This coming year the family plans to attend the Grow and Champs co-ops. Annie's focus at Grow is Treasurer and Building Liaison.

Magdalena

Magdalena started her homeschooling journey over 4 years ago when her older daughter was 3 years old. She is currently homeschooling both her daughters who are now 8 and soon to be 5. She joined GROW in 2023 and became a member of the Board in summer of 2024. Magdalena's focus at Grow is Volunteer Coordinator and Email.

Natalie

Natalie has been homeschooling her two boys for 12 years. While illness limited their ability to be very involved in many co-ops over the years, Natalie and her kids have attended CHAMPs, LOGYC, and GROW, as well as Swim and Gym at the Centre of Elgin. With the challenging schedule of a high schooler and a fifth grader ahead of them, the family will be sticking with GROW as their only co-op for the coming year (and they aren’t sad about that at all). Natalie's focus at Grow is Secretary.
