Statement of Faith

Backroads Homeschool Co-Op Statement of Faith:

We agree to adhere to and teach a Biblical worldview to our students based upon the Barna Research Group’s definition, as such, a biblical worldview is defined as believing that absolute moral truths exist; that such truth is defined by the Bible; and firm belief in six specific religious views. Those views were that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and lived a sinless life; God is the all-powerful and all-knowing Creator of the universe and He stills rules it today; salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned; Satan is real; a Christian has a responsibility to share their faith in Christ with other people; and the Bible is accurate in all of its teachings.

We believe the church is the body of believers, not the building. As such, we will not be teaching tenants of faith from any particular group, but will be following along the basis of Biblical worldview as stated above. That said, because our host church is of the Assembly of God, we do ask that all teachers make sure to not teach against their tenants of faith out of respect and honor to their generous gift to us.

A few things to note about this. All of us are in different stages in our walks with Christ and many of us have different doctrines of faith. I think we can all agree though that not one of us has it all figured out. As a matter of fact, the Pharisees and Saducees thought they were the experts and discerners of the law and yet, when the time came, they were the ones who crucified the Messiah who was sent to deliver them. Talk about knowing the word and yet missing the mark!

Philippians 2:12-13 says “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” As such, please be mindful and respectful of each other and allow those we love to work out their own salvation. That is not our place. Feel free to encourage and uplift one another in the word, but please refrain from using the co-op as a mission field for any particular denomination or religion. This is in adherence with our statement of faith, “we will not be teaching tenants of faith from any particular group.” We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 14:33 that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” We do not want to breed a spirit of confusion amongst our members in opposition to God, but one of peace in accordance to Colossians 3:14-15 (AMP) “Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others]. Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]”

We have been brought together as one body due to our love for our children and our love for our Lord. Ultimately that’s all that really matters. It is that love that binds us together in unity despite our differing doctrinal beliefs and it is the peace of Christ that will continue to hold us. We are so thankful for each of the members of our co-op and for the unique aspect everyone brings, a true coming together and example to those around us of what the church, as a body, should look like. Please see Romans 14 for more information.
