General Safety Guidelines

  • At the start of co-op all exterior doors will be checked to ensure they are locked with the exception of the gym and primary co-op door.
  • At 9:15 gym and primary co-op doors should be locked.
  • All classes should enter and exit through the main co-op door.
  • NO DOORS SHOULD BE PROPPED OPEN BETWEEN 9:15AM-12PM.
  • All participants should wear a name tag during co-op hours to be easily identified.
  • Door monitor will be assigned at the primary co-op door and provided with a walkie-talkie and keys to the church building and gym.
    • A walkie-talkie will also be provided to the preschool, upstairs of the main building, a K-2 room and gym.
  • When switching classes between the gym and church building students should remain as a group and be escorted by an adult.
  • Anyone expecting a visitor should let the board know with as much advance notice as possible.

Tornado

  • On channel 5 of the walkie-talkies a board member will announce
    • “This is (Board Members Name) and we would like to invite all of our co-op to a hallway party immediately.”
    • All classes should meet in the designated area (the hallway near the preschool.)

Intruder

  • Alert
    • On channel 5 of the walkie-talkies “This is (Board Member’s Name) please immediately go visit your grandparents.” This is a sign for all teachers to exit their nearest door (at their discretion) and at the fastest speed possible seek shelter at least one block away from the building. Once you have reached safety please text or facebook message all board members or post in facebook group.
    • Call 911
  •  Never respond to a fire alarm during lock-down.

Walkie-Talkies

  • All Classroom walkie-talkies should be on channel 5
  • The door monitor walkie-talkie should be on channel 10
  • The board will have two walkie-talkies, one on channel 5 and one on channel 10.
    • If the door monitor sees someone they don’t recognize approaching the building that seems friendly they will let the board know by saying, “I’m about to greet a visitor.” One available board member should make visual contact with the door monitor.
    • If the door monitor sees someone they don’t recognize approaching the building that seems unfriendly they will let the board know by saying, “Can you please ask Jeremy to help me unload some boxes?” The door monitor will leave the talk button suppressed during their interaction with the individual so the board member can quickly decide if further help is needed. At least one available board member should quickly make visual contact with the door monitor.
