FAQs
Q: |
What is a co-op? |
A: |
A group of home educators and families who meet and work together to cooperativly meet common goals. We share our strengths and passions with others so they may grow. |
Q: |
What does it cost to join Salt and LIght? |
A: |
There is a $100.00 Registration Fee, for each 9-week class semester. This fee covers your entire family - whether you have 1 or 10 children. We also have a HFHG Fee of $50.00 that is due annually (paid in the Fall semester). Some classes will have additional Class Fees, due to the nature of the class. These will be noted when you register for the class. |

Q: |
What do I do with my younger (non-school aged kids) during the co-op day? |
A: |
We have nursery, toddler classes, and Pre-K classes for the siblings of school-aged homeschool students. |
Q: |
Can I attend the Co-op for just a few hours of the day? |
A: |
You can attend 1, 2, or 3 hours of the co-op day. The Registration Fee is the same cost, no matter how many hours you attend. There is not a discounted rate for a partial-day. |
Q: |
Do I have to be a Christian to join this group? |
A: |
Yes, this is a Christian organization. Each family has to sign a Statement of Faith, as a part of Registration for this co-op. We unashamedly use the Bible as the foundation for the truths we teach our children. All Science classes are taught using the Creation point of view - not evolution. We strive to educate our children using a Biblical Worldview. |
Q: |
What are Class Fees? |
A: |
Most of our Registration Fees will go to reimburse teachers for the expenses they incur to teach a class (running copies, purchasing folders, gathering supplies). Some classes will need more money, based on the nature of the class. Typically science classes (gathering supplies for science experiments), cooking classes (for the ingredients needed), or art classes (extra paint, brushes, canvas, etc.) might need more funds than the allotted money allowed per class. The teacher may choose to request an additional class fee to cover these additional expenses. All Class Fees will be listed on the Class Options page. |
Q: |
Do I have to attend all the field trips? |
A: |
No, the field trips are to add to your childs educational experience. There may be some field trips that don't interest your child or aren't suitable for your childs age. |
Q: |
Will I be expected to teach? |
A: |
You will not be expected to teach your first 2 semesters. However, you will most likely be placed as an assistant in a class. If the teacher is absent you will be asked to teach the class in their place. If it is a planned absence the teaching material should be provided. If it is an unplanned absence, we will hopefully have an extra lesson plan provided by the teacher. Please keep in mind that a benefit of teaching is early registration. This will ensure your place at the co-op as well as getting the first-choice classes for your student. If you have attended co-op for 2 semesters you will be expected to contribute and teach a class. We are a co-op not a drop off program, we all need to invest time and energy to make this successful. |
