FAQs

Q:

What does a typical Monday look like?

A:

A typical Monday at BHF is full of learning, connection, and joy!

Families begin the day by checking in and are invited to gather for our morning meeting from 8:30–8:40 AM, where we share community announcements and a short devotional to start the day with purpose and unity. While optional, morning meeting is a sweet way to begin the day together in fellowship.

At 8:45 AM, students head to their first class if enrolled in 1st period. They can take up to four 50-minute class blocks, with short breaks between each. Classes end at 12:35 PM.

After class, families head to Rotary Park in Merritt Island for lunch and fellowship. This is a cherished part of our day—friendships deepen, kids of all ages play together, and parents have time to connect and relax.

While students are in class, parents gather for conversation, serve in volunteer roles, or enjoy some quiet time. Some families choose to enroll their children in all four periods, while others take a lighter schedule that works best for them.

Q:

What if I can't volunteer?

A:

We understand that not every season allows for volunteering—and that’s okay! While BHF is built on shared involvement, we offer a volunteer opt-out option for families who need it. If you're unable to serve in a regular role, you can choose to pay a volunteer opt-out fee for the semester instead.

That said, we do our best to match moms with young children to roles that are friendly for littles, and we also offer outside-the-classroom volunteer options (like behind-the-scenes work or planning support) if that’s a better fit. Just let us know—we’ll help you find the path that works best for your family!

Q:

What makes BHF different?

A:

Brevard Homeschool Fellowship isn’t just a place to take classes—it’s a Christ-centered community where families grow, learn, and do life together.

We begin each Monday with a short devotional to set our hearts on the Lord, followed by fun and engaging classes taught by passionate instructors who understand the homeschool journey—because many of them are homeschool parents themselves.

But what truly sets BHF apart is the vibrant fellowship that happens beyond the classroom:

  • Weekly park meetups after class

  • Monthly field trips that bring learning to life

  • Mom’s Night Outs for encouragement and friendship

  • Holiday celebrations, Christmas caroling, and community outreach

  • Special events like beach daysday trips, and hopefully a semester showcase!

We’re a flexible program where families can choose just a few classes or stay for the full day. Parents are part of the experience too—building relationships, serving alongside one another, and creating a co-op culture that feels like extended family.

We also offer a drop-off program for students age 14+ who qualify—providing independence for older teens while preserving the heart of our hands-on, connected community.

At BHF, we gather to glorify God, grow together, and make joyful memories that last far beyond the school year.

Q:

May I drop my kids off?

A:

At BHF, we value the presence of parents and the community it creates, but we also understand that older students may be ready for more independence. Students age 14 and older are eligible to apply for our drop-off program, and if accepted, they may attend classes without a parent on campus.

This program is designed to support families with mature students who are ready to manage their day independently in a safe, structured environment. We're happy to offer this option as a way to meet families' diverse needs while still maintaining the heart of our fellowship.

If you're interested in this opportunity for your teen, we’d love to walk you through the application process!

Q:

Does BHF offer a nursery?

A:

We’re not currently able to offer a nursery due to increased insurance costs. However, we do our very best to support parents with young children by helping them find volunteer roles that are flexible and manageable with little ones by their side. Many families serve with their littles in tow and find it to be a sweet part of the co-op experience!

Q:

What does BHF do to ensure safety and security?

A:

At BHF, the safety of our families is a top priority. All adults on campus must pass a background check and complete child safety training. On co-op days, building doors remain locked, and only co-op members are allowed entry. At least two unrelated adults are present any time students are around; students are never left alone with an adult unless that adult is their parent or guardian.

Adults are not permitted to communicate with students privately—whether in person or electronically—without another adult present or copied on the communication. Hall monitors are also on site to provide an extra layer of oversight. Bullying of any kind is not tolerated.

Q:

What does the registration fee cover?

A:

The annual registration fee goes toward the following:

  • insurance
  • background checks
  • child safety training
  • holiday celebrations
  • website
  • corporation maintenance (501(c)(3) filing, annual report with the state of FL)
  • saving for unforeseen circumstances (insurance deductible, etc.)
  • administrative expenses (name tags, printing costs, etc.)
  • a tithe to First Baptist Merritt Island for hosting our group

We've done our very best to keep this fee as low as we can and still cover our expenses.

Q:

Can I bring a friend or non-registered family member to [fill in the blank]?

A:

BHF events are reserved for registered children and adults who are listed on your Registration Application and have completed background checks and child safety training.

If you would like to bring a one-time guest, please email us in advance at brevardhomeschool@gmail.com to request approval from the Board. If approved, guests must remain with a registered adult at all times during their visit.

Thank you for helping us keep our co-op safe and consistent for all families!
