A letter from our Director

Dear Homeschooling Families,

Are you seeking a vibrant, inclusive homeschool community where your children can thrive, and you can connect with like-minded families? If so, I invite you to explore the Free Range Learning Cooperative, Inc. (FRLC) – a secular, nonprofit homeschool cooperative built on the values of acceptance, diversity, and community.

FRLC was founded to fill the need for a high-quality, inclusive homeschool co-op in Jacksonville. We embrace families from all walks of life and do not discriminate based on race, religion (or lack of), gender, sexual orientation, educational philosophy, or political views. Our goal is to foster a respectful environment where all families feel welcomed and valued. We are proud to be neurodivergent-friendly, ensuring a supportive and understanding space for children and parents with diverse needs. We simply ask that political and religious beliefs remain personal, and that each family practices openness and acceptance of others.

Why Choose FRLC? At FRLC, we believe in the power of community learning. Our cooperative is more than just a place for education – it's a space for families to grow, connect, and explore together. We offer a rich variety of classes, social activities, and events designed to spark curiosity and inspire learning. From hands-on crafts to engaging academic subjects, there is something for every child.

Join Us for an Open House! Twice a year, in March and October, we host open house events that provide families with a firsthand look at our cooperative. These events are the perfect opportunity to meet our directors, teachers, and member families, ask questions, and experience the unique atmosphere of FRLC. We encourage you to mark your calendar and see what makes our community so special.

How We Operate FRLC meets most Tuesdays on Jacksonville's westside. Our academic year is divided into two semesters:

  • Fall Semester: August through December

  • Spring Semester: January through May

Each semester offers 10-12 weeks of classes, with additional field trips and celebrations sprinkled throughout the year. Our day begins with a welcome gathering at 9:45 AM, followed by classes from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Families can choose to participate for a full or partial day, depending on their needs.

Affordable and Accessible We believe in keeping homeschooling affordable. Our annual family membership fee is $160, which covers facility rental and operating expenses. Class fees are just $6 per semester, with minimal material costs for certain classes. Additionally, each family plays an essential role in our community by volunteering in some capacity – whether as a teacher, assistant, or helping hand.

A Community for All Learning Styles We celebrate diverse educational philosophies. Some of our classes are structured, while others are more relaxed, giving children the freedom to learn in ways that suit them best. Parents are encouraged to select classes that align with their child's age, maturity, and interests.

Ready to Join? If you are ready to take the next step, please email us at frlcboard@gmail.com to begin the application process. This includes completing an online application and attending a meet-and-greet. Once approved, you can register your family, pay the community fee, and sign up for classes when registration opens.

Discover a place where learning feels like an adventure, and community feels like family. We can't wait to welcome you to the Free Range Learning Cooperative, Inc.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jones
