FAQs

General

Q:

When and where do the Young Explorers meet?

A:

Every Thursday, during the school year, from 9:00am-12:00pm at Charleston Bible Church.

Q:

Do you provide nursery for younger siblings?

A:

Young Explorers does have nursery available for children 3 years and younger, with older siblings in the co-op.  Nursery workers are rotated throughout the morning, as they are available between teaching older classes.

Q:

Do you accommodate special needs children?

A:

Unfortunately, Young Explorers Co-op is not set up to accomidate special needs children.  If your child has special needs, that require the parent to be in their classes as their aid, this would not allow the parent to fulfill all of the requirements in the parents responsibilities section of our handbook policies.  Mild special needs and highly functional specail needs will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Policies

Q:

Can I just drop my child off at co-op?

A:

Moms or appointed guardian must remain on the church premises at all times. Since we are a true co-op and not a drop off educational program, a child may not participate in the co-op unless his/her parent/guardian is on site. (There will be occasions that exceptions can be made, but not on a regular basis.)

**If you are unable to attend a particular Thursday and someone is willing to take responsibility for your children (guardian), that may be arranged. It is up to you as a parent to make these necessary arrangements and to notify the director of this arrangement.

Q:

Can my 3-year-old attend the preschool class?

A:

Preschool is reserved for 4-5 year olds of families with older students.  If you oldest child is not in Kindergarten or older, you will need to wait to join the co-op until they are Kindergarten age.  Preschool is an added service for our current families with older children.

Q:

How much does Young Explorers cost?

A:

There is a once a year $60 membership fee per family.  This membership fee covers the cost of administrative expenses, website fees, community serice project fund, and background check on both parents or the adult attending the coop weekly. (**an additional $15 per adult needing background check will be added to the first time registration.)

Each student registers for classes each semester and pays the class fee for that semester. **This fee varies depending on the classes for the semester.

Field trips are paid separately at the time of the field trip.

Q:

Why does Young Explorers require a background check?

A:

Young Explorers cares about the safety of their children & families.  A background check is required for any adult planning to regularly attend co-op with their children. In order to keep our children and families as safe as possible Young Explorers will do a full background check every 2 years, unless otherwise warranted. $15 per adult being screened, is added into the registration process to cover the cost of this background check. This is not meant to be an infringment of privacy, but an insurance for the safety of your children.
