FAQs

Q:

What is CHRISM?

A:

CHRISM is a Catholic homeschool group in Miami; we have been serving the Miami-Dade county area since 2017.

The purpose of C.H.R.I.S.M. is to provide an enrichment co-op to families who have chosen to home educate their children in a structured, entirely Catholic environment. We hope to offer support, encouragement, resources, and information to our members and to offer outreach opportunities to inform the general community about home education.
We strongly emphasize spiritual maturity and the development of Christian character and Catholic faith values. We collaborate on providing activities and materials that will honor and glorify our LORD.

Q:

How do I join?

A:

Non-members can click "JOIN" at the top of the website and fill out the membership form. But first, please click the buttons on our home page, Membership and Co-op Information and Forms and Documents to learn more about what we offer and your membership expectations.

Q:

Do I have to attend a specific denomination of church?

A:

We are open to people interested in living out a Christian faith. However, we are a Catholic co-op and will be sharing our Catholic faith. We do require that you affirm the Statement of Faith and that any member who is not a Catholic (or practicing Catholic) please refrain from sharing information that is contrary to our faith in any setting. Be respectful of the environment we have aimed to create for our families. You may discuss any questions you may have regarding what the church teaches with the adults in our group. Discussions with students about faith should reflect Catholic doctrine and church teachings in a positive manner.

As part of our weekly gatherings, we recite Catholic prayers, including the Rosary, we share information about the lives of Catholic saints, and study the academics through the lens of our Church teachings.

Q:

What does CHRISM offer?

A:

CHRISM was founded to provide a strong academic enrichment program. While families of CHRISM meet often for Park Play to offer socialization for the children and a place to learn and grow in our homeschool journey as parents, this is a happy benefit to the friendships forged. Through the co-op, we seek to strengthen families in their confidence and abilities to be the primary educators of their families. This occurs through the various roles parents are required to fulfill as they participate in the co-op, including team teaching for a few weeks.

Occasionally, we may offer field trips or special events.

Q:

How much is membership?

A:

Our annual fee is $25. This is for General CHRISM Membership and does not include the Co-op Enrollment offered in the Fall Term and Spring Term. The yearly membership runs from June-June regardless of when you register.

Q:

Do you offer academic classes?

A:

We do offer a separate enrollment for our enrichment co-op. This is NOT a drop off co-op and ALL parents involved are expected to teach in one capacity or another. New families will have the opportunity to shadow experienced parent teachers before taking the lead as teacher tutors. You will not be required to teach the whole Term but you will be expected to actively participate in various roles throughout the year.

Q:

Do I have to help teach other children?

A:

While we do offer a co-op (on Fridays) you do not need to take part in that to be a member of CHRISM. However, if you choose to enroll in the Enrichment Co-op, all parents are expected to actively participate in one role or another, which may include teaching a class, assisting in a class, participating in the care of babies and toddlers in the nursery, etc.

Q:

How do we keep the children safe?

A:

All families who participate in the enrichment co-op must have adults who comply with and remain active with the Archdiocese of Miami Virtus Program. We also use a buddy system so that two adults are always working with the children.

Q:

Who makes up the CHRISM leadership body?

A:

CHRISM is board-run. All board members are volunteers. Please see the contact information to learn more about the current leadership team.

Q:

Does CHRISM have a graduation ceremony?

A:

We do not offer graduation events.

Q:

Why can't I see certain events CHRISM offers on the calendar?

A:

As a safety measure for students and families of our members, we keep most of our events with times and locations behind the membership paywall. Events that are open to the community are made public. If you would like to visit us at a Park Play day to get to check us out, please email Isis at p.ipinero@chrismhomeschool.net.

Q:

Where do you meet?

A:

We meet up at various parks throughout Miami-Date county for Park Play days and our enrichment co-op classes are held on certain Fridays at Holy Rosary St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Pinecrest.

Q:

Do you have a dress code?

A:

As a Christian organization, we have outlined some guidelines for modesty at CHRISM-related events.
This guideline is for parents as well as our children.

  • No midriff shirts, blouses or sweaters on guys or girls
  • No short shorts; mid-thigh, please
  • No short skirts or dresses; fingertip length, please
  • No see-through clothing and no exposed cleavage
  • No pants hanging down below the waist

The enrichment co-op has a more specific uniform code that is required to participate in the Friday classes. These can be reviewed inside the membership wall. You will be required to agree to the guidelines before finalizing enrollment in the co-op. We will adhere to a 3 strikes policy if repeat reminders need to be made.

Q:

Are face masks required?

A:

No.

Q:

Where does my money go?

A:

Membership covers the cost of the website. Enrollment in the co-op covers the cost of the class facility, insurance, materials and other fees.
