EMH Policies
Updated August 1, 2024
MEMBERSHIP
Members must be presently home educating at least one school-aged child and currently living within the West Valley area. Families of preschoolers who plan to homeschool will be allowed membership upon leadership approval.
LIABILITY
EMH does not carry insurance and will not be held liable for any injury, illness or damaged/lost personal property sustained during an EMH-sponsored event. This includes any of our host facilities (i.e. Estrella Mountain Church, Starpointe Resident’s Club, or any venue allowing us usage).
MEMBER CONDUCT
To maintain the integrity of EMH please adhere to the following guidelines when dealing with issues with fellow members.
- Please follow the Golden Rule: “Treat others how you want to be treated.” Be respectful and polite in words and conduct.
- Recognizing large groups of individuals have various beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles, please be mindful of just how delicate unity can be. To ensure harmony, absolutely no gossip or negative talk about fellow members and/or their children is allowed. Families are encouraged to cultivate strong relationships by only discussing issues and solutions with whomever problems arise with.
- Please keep an eye on your children at all times. It is your responsibility to ensure your child maintains proper behavior during activities or while attending a field trip.
- It is highly recommended that you walk your child through the process of addressing problems with other children by sitting down with the other family and being an example of how to talk it out with them. Gossip and/or physical means of problem-solving are unacceptable and not tolerated. If a third party becomes necessary to help resolve the situation, the admin team will schedule a time to meet with the individuals involved.
EVENTS
Estrella Mountain Homeschooler’s calendar will only be full if the members assist in the planning of events. As such, members are expected to volunteer their talents in leading or assisting in at least one activity per year for the benefit of our families.
When posting for events, please be mindful of pre-existing events and avoid creating conflicts between the events. Sometimes events require a minimum number of participants that posting a new event close to an existing event may negatively impact.
REIMBURSEMENTS: Event leads are eligible for reimbursement according to their event’s budget. Please submit your receipts to treasurer for reimbursement using the online form.
REFUNDS are handled on an individual event basis. EMH-budgeted events that are paid through membership fees are not refundable. Refunds for events and activities planned by individual members are at the discretion of the event planner.
FORUM POSTS
Members are allowed to post whatever topic they would like that may be of benefit to EMH members. Crass, perverse or negative talk is not acceptable and will be removed. Please be considerate in your postings, realizing that members come from all walks of life and experiences.
Please refrain from posting suggestions/concerns on our online forum. These types of matters are better addressed in person and members are encouraged to use the appropriate means of communication.
BUSINESS SOLICITATIONS
This group is not to be used for business solicitation purposes. EMH is not liable or responsible for any interaction transpiring from business conducted through this group.
CLUBS & CLASSES
EMH welcomes clubs and classes of any kind for EMH members. EMH is not to be used to promote various businesses within the group. It is the sole discretion of the club or class leader to set the terms and guidelines of each club, including any fees associated with the club.
PHOTOGRAPHY & SOCIAL MEDIA
- Group photos will be taken during the year for our yearbook. Public photos of members will not be regulated by EMH.
- For the safety of our members, EMH requests that you do not announce events on social media until after the events have ended.
MEMBERSHIP FEES
Current membership fees are $20 per child in addition to a $9.50 family fee due to our website provider. All membership fees will be paid via our EMH PayPal account: PayPal.me/emhlife or in person to the lead admin or treasurer. When making an online payment, please note what the money is for and send via the "friends & family" option only.
Membership fees are collected to fund five main events throughout the year. These events are for celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Stepping Up. The membership fee is divided among these five events, for a current breakdown cost of $4 per child member. In order to make our events successful for our members, this fee is required regardless of actual participation and is not reimbursable.
ADMINISTRATORS
All admins in this group are parent volunteers. No one is paid for their service to EMH. Admin support the group's decision-making process, help to maintain and uphold EMH policies and moderate forum posts.
Let’s be good homeschool stewards for our community. We realize new issues will arise and these unforeseen circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. As such, policies are subject to change.
ANY CONDUCT THAT FALLS BELOW THE STANDARDS EXPRESSED IN THE POLICIES MAY LEAD TO REVOCATION OF MEMBERSHIP.
