FAQs
Q: |
What does the Rooted Homeschool Network provide? |
A: |
Our network offers our homeschool community opportunities to connect through organized play times, field trips, events, support groups, and drop-off classes. Our class offerings are taught by independent tutors. Please see the About Us page and our Policies page for more information. |
Q: |
Do I have to be a member of Oakwood Community Church to join? |
A: |
Our Administrators are members of Oakwood Community Church. Our primary goal when we began was to connect and serve all homeschool families who regularly attend Oakwood Community Church, however, we are looking forward to opening up our group to all local Waconia area homeschool families who are welcome to request membership. Membership forms, a signed statement of faith, and a family interview will be required for membership approval from the Administrators. All field trips and events on our membership calendar will be open to all members. Registration for our class offerings will be tiered. Tier 1 registration will allow families who are currently registered for classes and Oakwood Community Church regular attendees to register for classes. If class space allows, we will open Tier 2 registration which will allow all members to register for classes. |
Q: |
What day and times are the classes offered? |
A: |
Our class day is Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We offer two 14-week semesters. We take a fall break, a Thanksgiving break, a Christmas break, a winter break, and a Spring break). See our main webpage and calendar for class dates. |
Q: |
How do the drop-off classes work? |
A: |
CORE and ENRICHMENT CLASSES (Classes meet on Wednesdays from 9-2) Group members are eligible to register for classes taught by independent tutors, hosted at Oakwood Community Church on Wednesdays. Classes and times vary. All information about the classes can be found on our website (Click HERE), including descriptions, times, and costs. You must be an approved member of Rooted Homeschool Network to register for classes. Tutors: Our tutors are independent tutors who offer weekly drop-off classes taught with a Biblical worldview. The tutors have the right to decide on student count, classroom management, cost, curriculum, the format of the class, and communication with parents. The purpose of the classroom opportunities is to provide excellent teaching with a Christian worldview while fostering friendships in a safe environment. **Please note: Our tutors are not equipped in their classrooms to handle students who need extra attention due to learning issues or behavior issues. Please communicate directly with the tutor if you have concerns. Each tutor has the right to decide to whom they offer their services; which means that even though your family may have been approved membership in Rooted, your student is not guaranteed a space in each class of your choice. The tutor has the right and obligation to make that decision and will manage his/her own classroom behavior policy as well as refund policy. Please see our group page about policies and discipline, however, the tutors will also have their own classroom management plans in place. Homework: The homework commitment for each class varies. See the class description for details. Typically, the elementary grades will have options or suggested homework. You are still your child's primary teacher, so you decide what, how, and when their work is completed. You can adjust as needed. For the upper levels, more homework will be assigned, but again, it will be up to you as the primary homeschool teacher to decide how you want your student to complete the homework while keeping open communication with the tutor. Because high school credits have more significance and will ultimately be added to a transcript, homework loads will be heavier. Grades: Grading is done by the tutor depending on the class. Upper elementary and above might have graded assignments and quizzes. Ultimately, you, as the primary homeschool teacher make the final decision on your student's grade. Class Registration Process: Our registration process will be tiered. Tier 1 registration will allow Rooted members who are currently registered for classes to register for classes. If class space allows, we will open Tier 2 registration which will allow all Rooted Homeschool Network members to register for classes. Current members will register before new family registration begins. **If you do not desire to register for classes or if classes are full, you still have access to the calendar of events and other homeschool support opportunities within our group; there is still value in becoming a member without taking classes. |
Q: |
Do you offer support for students who have learning or behavioral challenges in a classroom setting? |
A: |
No, we do not have extra support for students who have learning or behavioral challenges. We are not a school and we do not have paraprofessionals available. We are a homeschool support group that offers drop-off classes taught by independent tutors. We are not equipped to handle challenging learning and behavior issues. Should a student need extra help in any area, please communicate directly with the tutor to resolve any problems. Please also see our policies page. |
