Basic Info on HFC
Thank you for your interest in Homeschoolers for Christ. We are a group of Christian homeschoolers who meet weekly for fellowship and field trips. Our goal is to spend time together building relationships so that we can support one another in raising and educating godly children according to Biblical principles. HFC is designed for families who desire a Christian homeschool support group that meets every week. If you would like the consistency of weekly field trips and fellowship for your family, HFC may be what you are looking for. However, if you do not have room in your schedule for another weekly activity, then HFC might not be the right support group for you.
Please look over the following information about HFC and prayerfully consider whether or not this group is a good fit for your family.
Overview:
-
HFC typically meets every Thursday from 2:00-4:00. There are exceptions to this, such as facilities that need us to come at an earlier time or a different day.
-
We meet at the Williamsburg Community Chapel one Thursday each month for Chapel Day or seasonal parties. On Chapel Days we typically have a 30 minute Bible lesson, 30 minutes of recitation time, 30 minutes of music, and 30 minutes of recreation. Programs do change from time to time and we often adapt programs to meet the needs of our members.
-
The other Thursdays include field trips, park days, or service projects. There are costs associated with several field trips. This varies from year to year.
-
There is an annual fee of $16 per family and $9 per child 3 years and up.
-
We end the year with a Spring Festival, during which the kids perform things they have practiced on Chapel Days. Each child, Kindergarten and up, is also encouraged to do an individual performance (musical or recitation), and all of the children display projects that they have worked on during the school year.
We limit our group to 20 families so that the members can get to know one another well and so that our group is manageable for the logistics of planning field trips. This is also a guideline for small groups at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, (of which we are a part). Our intention is not to be exclusive but to serve the needs of our current members with excellence. In consideration of families on the waiting list, we encourage HFC members to participate fully every week. If you cannot make this weekly commitment, please reconsider your membership.
If after reading through this Basic Info about HFC and the Purpose and Policies you feel that HFC may be a good fit for your family, please let us know by clicking on the REQUEST MEMBERSHIP tab in the upper right corner of the home page. The date we receive your request you are entered into the waiting list. You will be contacted by our Wait List Coordinator regarding your position on the list and opportunities to visit an HFC meeting.
We ask that everyone on the waiting list visit one of our Chapel Days to get a feel for our group and how it operates. After you've been contacted, please call to schedule a Chapel Day visit. We'd like to know that you are coming so that we can welcome you properly. You are also invited to attend summer events such as Park Days and other socially based events. Please contact a member of our Leadership Team if you have any questions about this attendance.
If you are new to homeschooling, there are many members in our group who would love to talk with you to help you narrow down the curriculum choices available. Please call us if you would like someone to contact you about curriculum. If there is any other way that we can serve you while you are on the waiting list, please let us know.
We will keep you updated on your position on the waiting list and will inform you as soon as a spot for your family becomes available.
Again, thank you for your interest in Homeschoolers for Christ. Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can serve you in any way.
Sincerely,
Dawn Jester and Sharon Pinto
