Statement of Purpose

Psalm 66

Shout for joy to God, all the earth;

Sing the glory of His name;

Give to Him glorious praise!

Say to God, “How awesome are Your deeds!

So great is Your power that Your enemies come cringing to You.

All the earth worships You and sings praises to You;

They sing praises to Your name.”

MISSION STATEMENT

Our desire in Joy Singers is to develop skilled musicians

who seek to glorify God through singing and

who carry spiritual truths in their hearts through song.

  • Meet and make new friends

Share God’s message of love and grace through ministry outreaches and performances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We agree to maintain a Christian organization representing biblical principles of love and morality. We desire to honor and glorify God and to be a light to the community and world. All group activities will be in keeping with Christian beliefs and standards of conduct.

Quality music from all styles and periods form the foundation for musical learning and serve as the basis for our choirs.  Spiritual, folk, gospel, classical, patriotic, and contemporary music are included.

Concepts about music (melody, rhythm, harmony, timbre, dynamics, form, style, and performance practice) and musical skills (singing, theory, sight-reading) are taught throughout the rehearsals using methods of singing, listening, and analysis.  Music instruments are used in accompaniment, primarily the piano, as well as others to enhance music and rhythm education. (Boomwhackers, triangles, maracas, shakers, etc.)

The students are taught to use their vocal instruments through exercises, posture, breathing, and tone production.  The essence of the musical experience is based on pitch and movement as it is “felt” and heard.  The ability to hear music, to conceptualize music, to perceive and respond musically develops naturally from the human voice.  Singing skill and musical understanding are essential components of the creative process and fundamental concepts of music education.

STATEMENT OF FAITH, FAMILY, & EDUCATION

We believe in God the Father, the Creator of heaven and earth; in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified and buried and on the third day rose again; and in the Holy Spirit, who gives us wisdom, strength, perseverance, and love to be a witness for the Son.

We believe in the divine inerrancy of the Bible and that it alone is the source of all truth. It alone is the measuring stick by which we choose to judge all of life.

We believe 1 John 5:7 which states, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” (KJV)

We believe all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but salvation is a free gift provided by the grace of God for all who believe and accept His Son as Savior.

We believe that the family is the basic governmental, social, and spiritual unit created by God.  We understand “family” to mean one man and one woman as husband and wife, legally married, with or without children.  We recognize the exception of single parents, adopted children, foster children, and stepchildren.

We believe that parents are responsible for the training and education of the children God has entrusted to them. We believe that children are gifts from God, and each parent stands accountable to the Lord for the course that is charted and the course that is followed. We recognize families employ different methods of education.
