About Us

Fort Belvoir Home Educators (FBHE) is a private, non-profit support group for military and DoD families who homeschool their children. We are dedicated to providing support and encouragement to one another, and to enriching the lives of our children through a variety of activities.  We have members with children from infants through high school however families must have a child that is at least four (4) years old by September 30th of the current year and is in K-12th grade. 

Our Mission

FBHE's mission is to provide a supportive and enriching environment for military and DoD families who homeschool their children. We believe that homeschooling is a great way to give our children a personalized education that meets their individual needs. We also believe that it is important for homeschoolers to have opportunities to socialize and learn from other children.

FBHE offers a variety of activities for all ages, including:

  • Social activities:
    • Holiday parties, bowling, swimming, Lego club, running club, and teen events
  • Enrichment activities:
    • Field trips, Co-op, Special Events
  • Support activities:
    • Mom's coffee, park days, curriculum swaps 
  • Other:
    • ITBS testing, yearbook, seasonal parties, Parent's Night Out, and Kennedy Center student ticket program

Membership

Membership in FBHE is open to all military and DoD families who homeschool their children. There is an annual membership fee of $60 per family, which helps to support our activities and resources. Members joining late in the school year (April-May) dues will not be paid until the turnover of the year, June 1st.  (Membership fee is non-refundable).

Because of the nature of our lives and the uniqueness of being Military/DoD homeschoolers, our goal is for this page to be kept private and only for Military/DoD families who homeschool. As such, when a person requests to join this group, they will receive an email from our Admin team first to ensure they are military and homeschooling.

To join FBHE, please visit our website and fill out the membership application. You will also need to provide proof of your military or DoD affiliation.
