Discipline Policy
Discipline notices are reserved for blatant or repeat disobedience and disrespect toward an adult or for physical harm to another student. Warnings may or may not be given before issuing a discipline notice for these offenses. Discipline notices may be written by any adult member of Rooted during any function, including regular or extra class days, programs, or field trips.
- First offense: Verbal warning. Tutors/adults are encouraged to verbally inform the parent of the warning either in person during co-op that day or by phone during the week after the verbal warning was given. A written communication slip may also serve as a verbal warning.
- Second offense: The second offense is to be documented by a written discipline notice. The written discipline notice is given to the parent and the co-op Director. The student may be removed from class activities depending on his/her conduct.
- Third offense: The third offense notice warrants the expulsion of the student. The tutor (and Rooted) reserve the option of suspending the student or expelling the family. **PLEASE NOTE: Approval of your request to join Rooted does not guarantee a spot in the class offerings. Our tutors are independent contractors and reserve the right to determine to whom they offer their services. The tutors decide their classroom count, classroom management policy, and refund policy. The tutor has the right to enforce a different discipline policy than what is explained above. If a student is severely disruptive in class or has learning issues that require more attention than what the tutor can provide, the tutor will contact the parent directly and discuss what action will be taken, which may include a trial period or expulsion from the class.
- **Please note: Our tutors are not equipped in their classrooms to handle students who need extra attention due to learning issues or behavior issues. Please communicate directly with the tutor if you have concerns. The tutor has the authority and obligation to make that decision and will manage his/her own classroom behavior policy, as well as refund policy. Please see our group page about policies and discipline, however, the tutors will also have their own classroom management plans in place.
Exceptions - Grounds for immediate expulsion:
- Any purposeful acts of vandalism.
- Any defiant behavior or foul language.
- Any alcohol or controlled substances.
- Any bullying behavior
