FAQs

Q:

When can my family join YLA?

A:

YLA is built to support homeschool families with youth ages 12 and older. When you have a youth age 12-18 who is homeschooling you can apply for membership in Youth Leaders for America. Families who have a youth who is 11, who will turn 12 the following school year, may apply for membership 1 year prior to their youth turnign 12 and attend the Pre Scholar class at JYLA.

HOWEVER, we have a new Ephraim JYLA Community for families with kids under 12 starting Fall 2024. Families who wish to be part of our community now and prepare for Scholar Phase are welcome to join this group and be connected with us sooner. They meet on Tuesdays at the Ephraim Bible Church. They are registered members of our YLA Community and attend our community events and activities.

We open registration for New Members in June of each year. Families can join until mid August, but we do not take new families once classes have begun for fall semester. Occasionally there is an exception, but that will need to be approved by our board of directors.

Q:

What does is cost to be a member of YLA?

A:

Families pay a once a year membership fee. This changes based on the amount of families and the needs of the community. It is typically $100 for the year. These fees cover our operational costs (rent, insurance, website, supplies at Scholar Day, supplies for community events etc...)

In addition to membership fees, each family will pay their individual Class Fees for each of their student's classes. These fees also vary based on how many students are attending and how many classes they are registered for. These fees are paid directly to the mentors. Class fees may range from $10 a semester to $300 a semester.

Q:

What if I cannot afford to pay all my fees?

A:

For those who woud like assistance in paying their fees, My Tech High provides an option for homeschool families to take group classes and be reimbursed for them. They will reimburse fees paid for YLA classes. They also provide funds for computers and other technical needs, as well and books and other homeschool supplies.  In order to access these funds you must enroll your student(s) with My Tech High.

You can visit their website for more information on how to enroll in My Tech High

We also have more information available on our private homepage.

There is also a Utah Fits All Scholarship available for Utah Homeschool families you can learn more about applying for that HERE

If you need more time to pay your fees, please speak with a Board Member or your Mentors directly to make other arrangements.
