What do you need to learn embroidery? Needle & thread, and your imagination. After that the sky is the limit!
In historical times before the invention of the sewing machine everything was done using a variety of hand stitches. From basic clothing construction to mending and creation of quilts and curtains to elaborate tapestries and other works of art, all were created by various methods of hand sewing using a variety of basic stitches.
We will be learning several of the most commonly used stitches to create multiple (4-6) small projects demonstrating the stitches and various materials available. This is a series of entry level projects to learn the basic stitches and methods, which every young woman was versed in from a very early age.
Learning about embroidery will teach your child history, economics, science and art as well as learning how to interpret instructions, plan out a project and finish it.
Planned projects:
1 Penny Rugs – not really rugs but embroidery on felt- basic blanket stitch
2 Basic Embroidery stitches
3 Small decoration in embroidery hoop-new stitches
4 Counted cross stitch
5 Sampler- 'A few of my favorite things'
6 T-shirt repair-don't throw it away, add something pretty to make it uniquely yours
NOTES:
1.The fee includes all supplies.
2. Space is extremely limited!
3. Although this class finishes in the middle of May, your child should have several projects finished and ready to enter into May’s Art Show.
