Desiree Newman To All Instructors

Desirée Newman is a graduate of Old Dominion University holding a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Human Services. She studied American Sign Language through Tidewater Community College’s ASL program. With a love of people and teaching, she began working in early childhood development facilitating children to learn through active play.  Desirée currently homeschools her two children, teaches others, and is an active volunteer in the community.

As a teacher, she believes in aiding student’s growth to reach their highest potential. When students feel excited about learning, she feels the most rewarded. Not relying solely on verbal instruction, she combines lecture with a variety of teaching forms- including presentations, demonstrations, and class activities. She takes pride in holding classes that are brimming with stories and lessons. She is a great believer that students should challenge themselves and take risks. Her classroom goals are for the students to feel accepted, validated, successful, and comfortable.
