Q:

When and where does FCCT meet?

A:

We meet on Mondays from September through May, with the exception of most holidays.  Classes are held at Calvary Chapel Southeast. (13520 SE Pheasant Court, Milwaukie)

Q:

How long is each term?

A:

FCCT meets for 32 weeks during the school year, this is either as two 16-week terms or one 15-week and one 17-week term.  Decision is based on when Christmas break falls.

Q:

How much does FCCT cost?

A:

We have a family registration fee of $50 per term paid to FCCT.

Each class has a tution cost of $60-$160 paid directly to the tutor either the first day of term or monthly during term.  Costs are determined by the tutor.

Some classes (especially art, cooking, and science) charge supply fees for materials the tutor has to purchase for each student.  These are paid on the first day of the term.

Q:

What ages of teens are allowed to attend?

A:

FCCT is for junior and senior high school age homeschool students. Participating students must be 12 yrs. old by November 1st and 18 or under by the beginning of the term.  We often welcome FCCT graduates back as tutors.

Q:

What are my obligations as a parent?

A:

You are responsible for the following:
1. to see that financial obligations (registration fee and tuition) are taken care of in a timely manner
2. to pick up/drop off your student on time
3. to encourage your student in their studies and communication with tutors
4. to track your student’s progress if you want classes to count towards graduation requirements

FCCT is a parent-run, homeschool tutoring group that is cooperative in nature. There is a leadership team that coordinates the details of FCCT, but for this community to stay strong and functioning we need many parent volunteers.  We always need/love parent volunteers for the various events that we have throughout the year!
Please contact our event coordinator (
firstclassclackamasteens@gmail.com) to see how you can help make FCCT a great program!

Q:

Is there a dress code at FCCT?

A:

We ask that all students dress appropriately and modestly with no logos or advertising that may be seen as offensive. For young ladies we ask that any skirts or shorts should be no shorter than mid-thigh and also that shirts cover tummy.

For our formal Christmas party the girls typically wear fancy dresses like you might wear to a homecoming dance or prom, though some just dress in nice clothes like they might wear to church.  If you go fancy, the length of the dress (and any thigh slits) should be past your fingers when you're standing and the top shouldn't plunge low and show any cleavage and no two piece tummy showing outfits.

Q:

What is the family membership registration fee?

A:

The family membership registration fee is $50/term and covers facility and FCCT operating costs (insurance, supplies, etc.)  Tutors are paid a separate amount for tuition for each class they offer.  The Leadership Team receives no salary and are all volunteers.

Monday Classes

Q:

What types of classes are offered at FCCT?

A:

CORE classes are history, science, language arts, foreign languages, geography, etc.  These classes will have higher expectations of students, parents and tutors, and are meant to be our academic courses. Core classes are typically year-long and scheduled 1st and 2nd periods (but can be scheduled to fit a tutor's needs).  There is more homework requirements for our core classes.

ELECTIVE classes are cooking, music, art, theater, PE, yearbook, etc.  These classes tend to be more laid-back and are not necessarily academically focused. These classes are scheduled 3rd and 4th periods. Student-taught classes also are considered electives.

Q:

What is FCCT chapel like?

A:

We have chapel every Monday from 12:10-12:35pm.
We start with a little bit of worship time led by students. (If your student would like to be involved with this, please contact us at firstclassclackamasteens@gmail.com) Then we share any relevant announcements.  And we end with a short devotional given by a variety of speakers.  This is a word of Biblical encouragement from one of our tutors, parents, area youth pastors, and even some of the high school students.

Chapel is required for all students on campus during this timeframe.

Q:

Are cell phones permitted at FCCT?

A:

Yes, however the heart of FCCT is to offer teens a chance to get to know each other, so we encourage them to limit phone time.
Cell phone usage is NOT allowed during class time or chapel, unless the tutor allows it for class activities. Cell phones may be taken by tutors or leadership during class if they become a distraction to your student or other students.

Q:

Can my special needs teen attend FCCT?

A:

Our program is run by volunteers and we can NOT offer one-on-one supervision or assistance for any student.  If you feel that your special needs teen would benefit from participating in FCCT, please contact our Leadership Team.  We would like to meet with you and your teen and discuss options for participation.  We hope to come alongside your family and work together to offer new experiences for your teen and others.

Q:

Will my teen be graded for coursework?

A:

Tutors may give a percentage grade each term for core classes.  If you'd like a grade for electives, or if you haven't heard from your tutor, email or call your teen's tutor requesting that information.

Q:

Will FCCT give my child a transcript listing all classes taken?

A:

No.  Parents are responsible for their teen's academic transcripts.  FCCT does NOT keep records for individual classes and members.

Tutoring

Q:

Where do you find your tutors?

A:

Our tutors come to us in a variety of ways. They are united by their love of Christ, love of their subject, and their love of teens. If you are interested in being a tutor or have a class idea, please contact FCCT at firstclassclackamasteens@gmail.com

Q:

What are the requirements to tutor at FCCT?

A:

  1. Must sign a basic evangelical Christian statement of faith. This is required for all tutors and leaders and is included in our Tutor Application.

  2. Pass a background check. Every tutor must pass a background check.

  3. Be committed to your classes and your students. Tutors must be committed to show up for every class. We understand some things are out of our control. If you must be away during a class day, please request a substitute tutor for your classes. FCCT has substitute volunteers; please check with a Leadership Team member.

  4. Communicate with Parents. You will be assigned a Tutor account on FCCT's website. As students sign up for classes, you will automatically be sent a class roster. The roster contains parent and student contact information. You will also have access to a class forum for communication. Before each term starts, tutors are required to reach out to parents informing them of class requirements and needs.

  5. Non-compete. After you submit your application, if we find that we already have a similar class being offered, we may ask you to change it up a bit, so that we have better variety and so that tutors won't be "competing" with the same classes.

  6. Attend Mandatory Tutor Meetings. Good communication is key to a successful team! We don't meet very often, but when we do, we ask that all tutors be present. Typically, we will meet once at the beginning of each term.

  7. Fees. Tutors set their own tuition fees that parents pay directly to them. Tuitions are based on the class type; core or elective. Our core classes range from $100 to $160;our elective classes range from $80 to $100.

  8. Post Fees As Paid. Each tutor is responsible for issuing receipts for tuitions paid. FCCT's website has an accounting option to post tuitions as paid; this documents each tuition paid within the parent's Statement of Account, deducting from their balance. There is also an option to send a receipt via email to the parent per fee paid. If the website accounting system is not used, as a tutor you are responsible for keeping track of your own fees collected and issuing receipts to the parents.

Q:

How can I tutor at FCCT?

A:

First Class Clackamas Teens does not hire teachers, rather we provide a space for tutors to share their gifts and knowledge.  All of our tutors are self-employed. Tutors set the parameters for each class, with the fees based on tutor's guidelines

First fill out a tutor application and secondly propose a class that you'd like to offer.  The Leadership Team will let you know if your class will be added to the class schedule.

Q:

Can my teen tutor a class at FCCT?

A:

Yes, older teens (17+) are invited to propose a class they can tutor at FCCT.  All classes must be approved by the Leadership Team.

Where do we learn about closures due to weather?

A:

FCCT starts the Monday after Labor Day and ends the Monday before Memorial Day.
We take the two Mondays off near Christmas and New Years.  We take spring break at the same time as North Clackamas Schools.  Other holidays may be taken off depending on the year. Check the calendar for specific days off.
