COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
German 1
In German 1, we will lay a foundation of German by learning greetings and introductions, colors, numbers, weather, school subjects, school supplies, hobbies and sports; using a textbook and workbook. Additional tools may involve partner activities, group activities, skits, presentations, trivia questions, crafts, games, art, music, physical engagement ("Please close the window." ) and perhaps cooking. The quicker students engage in the language, the more they will remember and the more fun they will have! I will use as many means as possible to encourage student involvement!
Grades will be based across an even distribution of: written homework, oral participation in class, small group assessments, quizzes and tests
German 2 - not offered 2024-25
In German 2, we will continue building on the foundation laid in German I; using a textbook and workbook. There will be further development of conversation through partner work in German. Also, the techniques incorporated in German 1 of skits, partner dialogues, group activities, presentations, trivia questions, crafts, games, art, music, physical engagement, and maybe cooking, if time allows.
German 3 - not offered 2024-25
In German 3, we will expand the German skills to include more short story reading, writing and class discussion. We will use Deutsch Aktuell 2 (5th edition-2004) as a foundation for grammar and vocabulary.
German 4
In German 4, we will BUILD ON the German skills FROM GERMAN 3 IN reading, writing and class discussion. We will CONTINUE TO use Deutsch Aktuell 2 (5th edition-2004) as a foundation for grammar and vocabulary.
High School Spanish 1
Students will learn Spanish through connections with other subjects, such as: music, literature, math, history, health, art, social sciences, geography and technology. Students will examine Latino/Hispanic culture and explore perspectives of Spanish speakers in regards to family, friends/friendship, sports/athletics, community service, food, social events and festivities, traveling and computer technology.
This class involves learning Spanish grammar such as: definite and indefinite articles, word order and placement, plurals of adjectives, subject pronouns and conjugation of present tense verbs. Songs, dance, cooking, arts and crafts and other activities appropriate for 7th -12th students are incorporated into the class.
Class usually is 1 hour of teaching and 30 min of games and manipulatives so students learn more, I use quizlet, kahoot and other online games.
During the year I do a “Cultural day” every other month and we make:
Mexican tortillas, pyramids, Peruvian mask, molas from panama, ornamnets for Christmas, etc.
High School Spanish 2
A continuation of Spanish I. This involves a further study of Spanish grammar such as: using comparisons, demonstrative adjectives, direct and indirect object pronouns, commands, present progressive and past tense verb conjugations. Songs, dance, cooking, arts and crafts and other activities appropriate for 8th -12th students are incorporated into the class. The last Wednesday of each moth we have a cultural day where the students experience culture by trying and cooking Latino food.
Class usually is 1 hour of teaching and 30 min of games and manipulatives so students learn more, I use quizlet, kahoot and other online games.
During the year I do a “Cultural day” every other month and we make:
Mexican tortillas, pyramids, a Peruvian mask, molas from Panama, ornaments for Christmas, etc. We rotate every year.
Middle School Spanish (2-year rotation of topics)
This class is a rotation class so students will visit Latin America to learn about the culture, songs, flags, and food of México, Guatemala, Panamá, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Each student will have a passport and will get a stamp after finishing their assignments.
Every time a student will visit the country, they will also learn basic conversational skills, pronunciation, greetings, introductions, classroom directions, numbers, alphabet, telling time, days of the week, months, weather and seasons. All taught through immersion in a Spanish environment and engaging in FUN, 5th – 7th grade activities (songs, dance, cooking, arts and various activities) that are designed to help students develop a knowledge and appreciation of Latino/Hispanic culture. My class usually is 1hour teach and 30 min of games and manipulatives so students learn more, I use quizlet, kahoot and other online games.

We also have a field trip to the Mexican bakery where they teach the students how to make Mexican bread and decorate cakes, this will be an extra cost and optional.
