Welcome!

Welcome to Ad Astra!!

Welcome! Ad Astra has served the Fredericksburg, VA homeschool community for more than 20 years! We provide a unique niche in the community by offering educational cooperative classes for K-4 through 8th grade, while coordinating time and space for homeschool families to connect with homeschool tutors to meet the educational needs of high school age students with a variety of class offerings.

We are a cooperative that supplements the homeschool experience with academic tutoring while providing our students with an opportunity for solid social interactions. Our program has historically focused on core academics, but we are seeking to expand the program to include more electives in the future.

Ad Astra is not an accredited school. Our program is not intended to replace your homeschool curriculum or guarantee high school graduation requirements. We strive to only work with quality tutors but it is your responsibility to determine whether the content of the classes offered through Ad Astra is adequate to meet your curriculum criteria. While we offer high school tutor-lead group learning for which tutor grading suggestions are provided, it is the responsibility of the student and parents to track and maintain credits and transcripts. The ultimate responsibility and authority of homeschooling your student stays with you, their parent/guardian.

Mission

Ad Astra Mission

Mission - The mission of Ad Astra is to create a resource rich, encouraging and supportive environment to Christian families in our community that feel called by God to homeschool their children. We strive to create meaningful experiences and community not just for children, but parents as well during their homeschooling journey.

Vision - Ad Astra strives to achieve its mission through activity, engaging both the student and the parent in the education process connected with biblical principles and values. This engagement includes parent involved instruction as well as the opportunity to connect with families outside of the classroom. These opportunities exist to empower and encourage parents through the homeschool journey as well as providing information to those in prayerful consideration of beginning to homeschool.

Ad Astra Statement of Faith

Ad Astra Statement of Faith

In review of our Program Documents we concluded that the Statement of Faith was unnecessarilly specific and therefore prohibitive to our objective of serving our community of fellow believers without denominational bias. The purpose of our Statement of Faith is to frame a Biblical position which reflects the broader common faith of our denominationally blended community, and is based strictly on Scripture without denominational or doctrinal bias. As believers, there are certain points which we all hold to be true and though we do require that all of our members share certain "Tier 1" beliefs, we do not require that they adhere to denominationally specific doctrines or interpretations. For that reason, we have ammended our Statement of Faith to the following:

We believe that "there is one body and one Spirit, [...] one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." Ephesians 4:4-6

We believe that "there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people." 1 Timothy 2:5-6

We believe that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus [and that] God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith..." Romans 3:23-25

We believe when Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

We believe in "the Gospel of God - the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake." Romans 1:2-5

We believe that, "When you believed [in Christ Jesus], you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession..." Ephesians 1:13-14

We believe what Jesus answered when He was asked, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: “?‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:36-39

We believe that "This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome" 1 John 5:2-3

"We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did." 1 John 2:3-6

We share Paul's exhortation to, "[...] make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus" Philippians 2:2-5

As educators we share with our community of parents the responsibility to, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

We espouse certiain Biblical principles to form our positions in the way that we teach certain subjects. Some of those are as follows:

We believe that, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

We believe that, "God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27
