About SCA

History

In the late 1980s, homeschooling mothers and their children in south Orange County met weekly at Iglesia Park for a play day. Several women became interested in organizing a more stable structure which would offer both education opportunities for their children and teaching support for themselves. During that time, homeschooling was so new that families felt a desire to unite under a secure “legal umbrella,” as well. Unquestionably, they wanted this entity to be Christ-centered.

Luncheons followed where dreams, needs and ideas passed back and forth. The ladies sought the counsel of Mrs. Ellie Edwards, a Christian educator in the area. With her encouragement (“I think you kids can do this!”), three couples – Chris and J.R. Anderson, Jamie and Robert Eskridge, and Sue and Robert Weaver – joined together to create a new kind of school.

On May 26, 1987, these couples announced the opening of Saddleback Christian Academy and advertised a gathering in the Anderson’s home to “answer any questions about the school’s purpose and objectives.” Pre-registration was held in the summer, and the first faculty meeting followed in September at the beginning of the first school year. Because of the responsiveness of a hardworking community, within two years, SCA was able to offer monthly faculty meetings, assemblies, fairs, family picnics, classes, sports days, field trips, vision screening, newsletters, school pictures and a yearbook! Three decades later, it remains the founders’ prayer that SCA is pursuing His name for His glory.

Today, SCA is comprised of approximately 120 Christian families, mostly from south Orange County, who take full responsibility for their children’s education.

Mission Statement

Saddleback Christian Academy is a community of Christian families dedicated to investing in their children’s spiritual and academic lives by discipling them to be responsible citizens committed to making a significant impact for the Kingdom of God.

At SCA, we strive to educate our children with a Christian worldview and believe the Bible to be God’s inerrant word.

Private School Satellite Program (PSP)

SCA files an affidavit as a private school with the state of California each year and is classified as a Private School Satellite Program (PSP), in which the students’ education is provided by or under the direction of their parents.

It is our focus to aid the Christian home schooling family in preparing well-rounded students who will be able to acknowledge the sovereign God in all spheres of life.

SCA offers a wide variety of support activities and resources to our families, including monthly parent (faculty) meetings, field trips, record keeping, testing, special events, assemblies, speech and debate, and supplementary classes. Our success depends upon the families of the school coming together to help serve in different capacities.
