Support Roles
By definition, support roles are any job description outside of the typical teacher and assistant job descriptions. Some support roles take as much time as a teaching position, and others take much less time.
Study Hall Monitor – is a position where a parent will be asked to be in an assigned room where students who have selected study hall are to remain quiet so other student can study. The parents is free to do their own work as long as it does not disturb the students. They are asked to remain in the room for the full session.
High School Lunch Monitor – This position requires a parent to stay in the lunch room with the high school students to monitor their behavior. She/he will also encourage them to clean up after themselves. Students should not be roaming around the halls during the lunch hour.
Middle School Lunch Monitor – This position requires a parent to stay in the lunch room with the middle school students to monitor their behavior. She/he will also encourage them to clean up after themselves. Students should not be roaming around the halls during the lunch hour.
Cleanup – This position requires a parent to use their designated session to clean up in specific areas as outlined by the housekeeping administrator.
Housekeeping Administrator-this position requires the identification of cleanup needs. A list of responsibility is outlined and then administered to others to implement. It requires a knowledge of the building and the church’s expectations to keep it clean.
Communication Coordinator – This position keeps the Big Tent communications updated to current enrolled parents. It also sends out Big Tent communications to all participants to make sure the latest information is being communicated.
Financial Administrator – This position keeps track of all fees collected for each semester. It also identifies what fees need to be paid out to each teacher throughout the semester. The administrator is also responsible for paying fees to outside teachers for classes such as guitar.
Door Monitor – This position requires a parent to sit near the entrance door to allow for the entrance of families after first session. In order to provide for the greatest security, all doors will remained lock throughout the building during Discovery Days. The entrance door will be the only door they will be able to be admitted to. This position only requires the presence of the parent to open the door. They are able to work on whatever projects they so desire. Therefore, this is only considered an half assistant position.
Substitute (Session Specific) – Any parent who is assigned to be a substitute should always check in at the beginning of their session with the substitute coordinators. A room has been designated for those purposes. A substitute will be asked to fill in as an assistant in any class as needed during their specified session. If they are not needed on a particular day, they are free to use it as a free period.
Substitute Coordinator – The substitute coordinator helps to coordinate the needs represented when a teacher or an assistant is absent at Discovery Days. If a teacher or assistant is found missing the day of, they are responsible to get someone to fill in and coordinate the lesson plans to make sure class is held as normal as possible.
