What is the process for drop off and pick up at PATH?
PATH has been assigned the use of Entrance #6, located on the north side of the building by the "Gorilla Ball" court (a hexagonal enclosure).   When dropping off and picking up students, pull vehicle into a parking space rather than stopping to unload or pickup in the flow of traffic. Always use extreme caution in the parking lot, as it could be busy with dropping off/picking up students. Student should arrive at a minimum 5 minutes before class start time.

You are free to dropoff students early and pick them up later as long as they understand they will need to use the study hall and/or gym if it is available, and not wander the halls or leave the premesis.

What is the protocol for inclement weather?
In case of bad weather, the decision whether to hold classes or not will be made by 7:45 A.M. on class day. An email will be sent out as soon as possible. We may choose to have a late start and shorten each class period instead of canceling the entire day. For the safety of our students and families, we may choose to have an early dismissal, shortening class periods, and thus shortening the day, if inclement weather approaches. Calvary E Free staff may make decisions about the use of their building during a weather emergency that precludes any alternate choice we might make.   It is a big parking lot to snowplow.  If classes are cancelled, do be expected to perform online work vs take the week off.

Are electronic devices permitted?

At PATH, cell phones, tablets, and laptops are tools, not toys.  Students may use their cell phone in the church entrance area for communication purposes. During class cell phones and related devices are not to be used. This includes text messaging. Each facilitator reserves the right to place cell phones and any such items aside until the end of their class.

Students may use computers for homework purposes in the designated study room. Video game/video gaming is not allowed at PATH.  Please leave your gaming devices at home as this is an educational and social environment.  Students should use this time to relate with their peers face to face, or complete assigned coursework.

Are guests allowed at PATH?

For the safety of those within our space:

If students wish to bring a guest to class(es), prior permission (24 hours) must be obtained from the on-site director. Guests are permitted to attend PATH, with the understanding that the guest will be the responsibility of the host student throughout the day. Guests are expected to be appropriately attired and must adhere to all rules. Any guest must sign in with the on-site director at the beginning of their visit.

Parents should check in with the on-site director for the purpose of visiting a class in session.

May my student leave the PATH campus?

10th grade students and older may leave the PATH campus during a free or lunch period with permission given by the parent.  Please text the director at 507-210-0822 giving permission.  This priviledge will be suspended for 4 weeks if the student returns late to class.  Students may not bring other PATH students with them unless each parent has agreed to such an arrangement and notified the director.

Are the PATH classes accredited?
No. PATH is not a school or an accrediting organization. Most classes cover a course of study that typically earns a half or whole highschool credit. The parents are responsible for determining credits earned and then placing them on a transcript.

Will PATH provide transcripts for classes taken?
No. Transcripts are the responsibility of the primary educational institution. This is the parent's responsibility in the homeschool setting.

Will my student receive a report card?
Each facilitator will give you an evaluation. If it is a course that uses tests and percentage points, the facilitator will give you the student's total percentage Then the parent must assign the grade for the transcript or report card. Another reason the facilitators don't assign letter grades is that PATH is not a school and, therefore, does not have the authority to assign grades. The parent is the final authority in the homeschool.

Why would I enroll my home educated child in PATH?
Reasons to enroll vary:

  • You and/or your student desire interaction in a Christian academic environment
  • There are some areas of your student's education you'd like to have take place in a classroom setting
  • Your family may view it as a stepping stone to taking PSEO classes on location at a community college
  • You may desire intentional Christian Discipleship activities that challenge your student to make their faith their own
  • Having an older daughter/son in a setting similar to PATH allows Mom/Dad additional time with younger children at home
  • Exposing your children to different teaching styles, expectations, curriculum readies students for learning formats in PSEO, college, the workplace
  • You may wish to strengthen your childs overall education by outsourcing certain classes to those with strengths different than your own.

How many classes should I choose?
Remember that each class has daily homework requirements, plus, you may have other areas of study required for your student in your home. Consider the general requirements for your student in the upcoming year. This should help you determine what classes your student needs and how many classes your student has time for. Most students should not be taking more than a total of 4 or 5 core classes plus 1 to 3 electives in a year.

What happens when my student misses a class?
The student is responsible for getting the teaching notes from a classmate and getting any handouts and assignments from the facilitator. The facilitator will not re-teach the lesson.  Students must keep up with the classwork, even if they are away/sick/etc.  facilitators are ready and willing to offer extensions for unexpected circumstances.

Will my student ever have a substitute facilitator?
It may happen. In the case of illness or pre arranged activity your facilitator will hire a qualified substitute to take the class session. If they have to miss a class and are unable to hire a substitute, they will communicate the assignments to each student.

Why are the educational facilitators called "facilitators"?
PATH is not a school. It is an adjunct educational organization. As a learning cooperative, the qualified instructors we hire must legally be called facilitators.

?Does the facilitator want to know if my student will be absent?
?Yes. Please let the facilitator(s) know as soon as possible if your student(s) will be absent. This is helpful in planning for class time.
