HSC's Information for Colleges

About The Home School Connection (HSC)
HSC is an interdenominational Christian homeschool co-operative (co-op) that offers hundreds of classes taught by both co-op members and tuition teachers. Our members include roughly 80 families, with 80 high school students. HSC does not provide transcripts or have the capability to rank students, as HSC students frequently also take classes in a variety of other settings, including home, colleges, and other learning institutions.

Teachers
Many of our teachers have terminal and advanced degrees and significant professional experience in their fields. We encourage HSC teachers to cover subjects and content for which they have a passion, rather than simply fulfilling a perceived need. Teachers have full freedom - and often take advantage of it - to teach what they love, rather than teaching to a test. The result that we observe, year after year, is students infected with a love and capability for learning.

Classes
HSC high school students attend classes two days per week in a lecture or lecture/lab format similar to a college schedule. Students manage 5-10 hours of homework per academic class at home each week. HSC offers a four-year cycle of science, history, and literature subjects. HSC students haveoften the opportunity to participate in small, specialized classes such as computer programming and robotics, as well as large group experiences with 20-45 students in classes such as choir and musical drama.

Graduates
HSC students have successfully attended a wide variety of colleges and universities, including: University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor, University of Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins University, Hillsdale College, University of Dallas, Michigan Technological University, Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN), Benedictine College, Grand Valley State University, Kettering University, Madonna University, Eastern Michigan University, Ave Maria University, Spring Arbor University, Washtenaw Community College, Hope College, Cedarville University, Calvin University, and Cornerstone University.
