Volunteer Roles & Descriptions

Classroom Teacher Aid:

  • Supports the teacher by assisting with classroom activities
  • Helps provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children
  • Please keep eyes on students and class (should not be on a computer or phone)
  • *May be able to bring a child who is not in the class with you during your volunteer hour, as long as the child is not disruptive – Be sure to talk to the teacher first!

Set Up:

  • Help set up the tables and chairs in the meeting areas and classrooms for G.I.F.T. classes to begin
  • Put up signs for the convenience of G.I.F.T. members to find their way

*Door Monitor:

  • Sit by the front door of G.I.F.T. to open the door for all G.I.F.T. members
  • Makes sure all entering are a part of G.I.F.T. - We want to make sure there are not strangers wandering in the building to be near our children and our belongings.
  • Charge of the walkie-talkies for the door and the outside walkie-talkie used for teachers taking students outside

*Hall Monitor:

  • Ensures there is a volunteer(s) in each classroom, door monitor & stairwell monitor
  • Helps fill an open volunteer role with the floaters for that specific hour
  • Sits in the lower level hall to monitor and limit noise
  • Assist in an extra person for bathroom breaks during classes
  • Check the downstairs bathrooms to make sure counters and floors are clean. Report to the Building Liaison if more toilet paper is needed.
  • Charge of the walkie-talkie for the hallway

*Stairwell Monitor:

  • Make sure students are quiet going up and down the stairs
  • Check the main floor bathrooms to make sure counters and floors are clean. Report to the Building Liaison if more toilet paper is needed.
  • Charge of the walkie-talkie

Floater:

  • Be available to fill for any volunteer role if someone is absent or late that hour

*Nursey Attendant:

  • Clean up the nursery - Sanitize the area and pick up toys

Clean Up:

  • Help clean up the tables and chairs in the meeting areas and classrooms after a day of G.I.F.T. classes
  • Clean up the church so we leave things looking nice

*Field Trip Committee:

  • Each member of this team will plan special Field Trip days throughout the year
  • This position will require 24 hours of work to make plans, reservations, collect payments (if needed), and more.  This work can be done at home or at G.I.F.T. 

*Events Committee:

  • This team will plan for special events throughout the year - Events may vary but will include Sharing Day (soup potluck), Craft Fair, Valentines Exchange Day, Around the World Day/Science Day and Evening of the Arts
  • Each team member will be required to plan, prep, and serve at the events. Attendance during these events to set up and clean up the event is required
  • Please be aware that past knowledge of these events is not necessary
  • This volunteer covers 24 hours of work - Those 24 hours will be done at your own/the team's time schedule.
